Bubbles Saves Grandma
A speedrunning comedy platformer made in 3 days for the 46th Ludum Dare game jam. The first Tamanegi game!
It’s April 2020 and the founding members of Tamanegi are without a weekend plan. It’s then that they discover the Ludum Dare is occurring, a jam that they have long been familiar with but had never found the right moment to take part in. Fast forward 3 days, and Bubbles Saves Grandma is submitted to the site.
With creative juices flowing and many lessons learned about working in an indie team, excitement was building for the next one and the seeds were planted.
As the team for Bubbles was quite small, things were kept simple, utilising simple physics controls, a Rugrats-inspired low-fidelity artstyle, and relying heavily on silly voice acting to guide the experience. While not the most impressive game, we wouldn’t be where we are today without it.

“A funny game for sure, Grandma dying when you run out of time was brilliant, and her whining about the sands of time and abandonment issues made me laugh. Definitely an amusing little game. The controls were pretty frustrating, but I get that thats the main challenge involved. Nice work though!”
